New Lebanon officer injured in crash

A police officer assisting at a traffic stop on Main Street was injured when her police sport utility cruiser was rear-ended by another vehicle.

New Lebanon officer Gretchen Wier was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital after being involved in a crash at approxiamtely 6:30 p.m. on Main near Hepner Street.

The investigating Ohio Highway Patrol trooper said Wier pulled up to assist an officer who was on a traffic stop when a black Scion struck the back of her vehicle.

The officer was taken to the hospital for treatment of a possible back injury.

Tests will have to determine the severity of the injury, New Lebanon Fire Chief George Markus.

The Scion’s driver was cited for failing to maintain assured clear distance.
