Condo construction continues to increase in Dayton area

New home construction in the Dayton area declined in September compared to the same month last year, but condos remain a hot item.

In September, 167 permits for new homes were pulled, according to the Home Builders Association of Dayton. That’s seven fewer than last year and a year-to-date decline of 7.5 percent.

But September saw a burst in condo permits at 19, bringing total residential permits for the month to 186, or 10.1 percent more than September last year.

Dayton has seen several new condo plans come into the woodwork in recent months. The Hawthorne School across the river from downtown was transformed into condos and developers of the Flats at South Park are planning 30 new condos along Warren Street.
