The potential for infection from the coronavirus is not the only health impact. The pandemic has created stress and anxiety around the world and here in the Miami Valley. Experts do have advice to help.

News Center 7’s James Brown spoke with Dr. Kathy Platoni, a well-known clinical psychologist who practices in Centerville. On News Center 7 at 5, he talked about some of the advice she gave.

Dr. Platoni says there are some simple tips to follow. First, use common sense when you are out and about, whether you are home or out at the grocery store. She also gave these tips:

  • Try deep relaxation breathing
  • Take breaks from social media and the news
  • Create a family plan: don't just wing it
  • Be creative with family members
  • Get children outside with activities like bike riding
  • Don't hesitate to seek medical help if needed

James also shared some of the things the CDC says to look out for at a time of anxiety:

  • Changes in eating habits
  • Trouble sleeping and concentrating
  • Chronic health problems get worse
  • increased use of alcohol
