Beware of scams targeting DP&L customers

Dayton Power & Light issued a warning Friday about two types of scams affecting customers.

One scam demands that customers make a payment or risk having service disconnected within 30 minutes, and another scam claims that customers have been overcharged and to call for a refund.

In call cases, the scammers are trying to defraud customers, often targeting elderly people and small businesses fearful their electricity may be turned off unless they comply immediately, a release from DP&L stated.

Scams may use email, social media, phone calls for even door-to-door visits.

DP&L reminds customers to not provide personal information or comply with requests before hanging up and calling DP&L at 800-433-8500 to ask questions about anyone contacting you about your bill or claiming to be from the utility.
