A suspect in a Liberty Twp. porch pirate case has been identified, but the Butler County Sheriff’s Office needs help finding him.

The sheriff’s office said Jacob Mitchell of Middletown has been identified as the suspect, and an additional $500 is being offered to find him, according to a post today on social media. That’s on top of $500 Sheriff Richard Jones offered for turning in the suspect.

Last week the sheriff’s office used social media to post pictures of suspect in a recent theft from a porch in Liberty Twp. The homeowner’s doorbell camera caught two photos of the suspect and the SUV he was allegedly driving.

FIRST REPORT: Can you identify this porch pirate suspect?

“Do you know this subject? This person is a suspected porch pirate. He walked up on the victim’s porch, in the Carriage Hill Subdivision in Liberty Twp. taking packages that were left by a postal service, and fled the scene. Suspect and vehicle (Ford Escape) are pictured. If you recognize this suspect, please call Detective Mike Steele @ (513) 759-7347. Thank for your help!” the post says.

On Saturday, Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones said the department is offering a $500 reward to the person who provides the suspect’s identity. The suspect was stealing from the Carriage Hill subdivision

“500 bucks 2 first person who turns him in,” the sheriff tweeted.

Jones told the Journal-News he is sending a message.

“I hate a thief,” he said. “And everybody has been a victim of thieves. They are on porches stealing from people who work, not just here, but all over the country. I want people to be aware of it.”

He said the sheriff’s office has a fund for informants and rewards that is used often, but not always publicly.

Jones said suspects drive around in neighborhoods when people are working and steal.

“They don’t care what is it is, sometimes it is life-saving medication,” Jones said. “I am fed up with it.”
