Dayton man pleads guilty in heroin distribution ring

A Dayton man pleaded guilty to planning a heroin distribution ring from Texas to Ohio.

Gene Lamar Talley Sr., 48, pleaded guilty in federal court to conspiring to distribute more than 100 grams of heroin, according to the U.S. Attorney Southern District of Ohio’s office.

A sentence of 60 to 150 months has been recommended.

In 2007, Talley reportedly met with someone in Austin, Texas, to get controlled substances, including heroin, for distribution in Ohio.

He also arranged for others to get the drugs and bring them to Ohio and to get money to the person in Texas, according to the U.S. Attorney Southern District of Ohio’s office.

Officers seized money meant to be sent to Texas three times.

Police in Austin, Texas, seized $99,000 in December 2012; police in Chicago seized $230,000 in June 2015; and police in Winfield, Texas, seized $240,000.

Four other people — Brianna Reid, Adriauna Smith, Syreeta Scruggs and Kenneth Patterson — have pleaded guilty in the case.

Reid pleaded guilty in federal court in Dayton Thursday, according to the U.S. Attorney Southern District of Ohio’s office.

Smith, Scrugg and Patterson pleaded guilty in January and February and are scheduled to be sentenced in May.
