They are not considered suspects, the sergeants said.
There is a bullet hole in the yellow vehicle and police are looking for a second vehicle believed to be gray.
UPDATE @ 9:55 p.m.: Police officers continue to scour a neighborhood on Dayton's east side, looking for a young woman believed to have been shot in the area of South Smithville Road and Kemper Avenue.
We’re hearing that police have been in contact with a woman who said she is the mother of the person police are looking for. So far, though, police have not found the young woman.
Officers also were focused on a yellow car near where the shooting reportedly occurred.
Bailey MacIntosh, who lives in the neighborhood, said she was sitting in her living room when she heard a crash and ran out to the front porch.
“A girl jumped out of the back seat [of the yellow car] and starting running towards me. A second woman jumped out the back seat as well, but the first woman made her way to the porch, MacIntosh said.
“She said ‘somebody call the police, I’ve been shot in the back!’ “
MacIntosh said she told the woman she had a small child inside and couldn’t let her in, but offered that police were on their way.
MacIntosh described the woman as 20 to 30 years old.
She said her roommate saw a man also get out of the driver’s seat of the yellow car and run toward the second woman.
MacIntosh was asked what she thought the first woman wanted or was going to do.
“I’m not sure, but I can’t take any chances with that type of thing these days,” MacIntosh said. “I have to protect my family.”
