NEW: Sheriff releases surveillance photo of suspect in Farmers State Bank robbery

UPDATE @ 6:27 p.m. (Feb 3): The Darke County Sheriff's Office on Monday released a surveillance photo of the suspect in the Farmers State Bank robbery in New Madison.

The sheriff’s office also released new details about the robber: He is white and is approximately 5-foot-10. The rest of the description remains the same as initially announced: The invader is in his 20s or 30s, wore a black hoodie pulled over his face, black pants and tan slippers.

INITIAL REPORT (Jan. 31)

The Farmers State Bank in the village of New Madison was robbed Friday evening for the first time in nearly 50 years.

The robber did not have a weapon during what Darke County Sheriff’s deputies called a “strong-arm robbery,” which was reported just before 6 p.m. at the bank, 101 S. Main St. Deputies who would not say how much cash he got away with.

The suspect, a man in his 20s or 30s, was wearing a black hoodie pulled over his face, black pants and tan slippers, deputies said.

He left in a red or burgundy crew cab pickup truck.

Deputies said the last time the Farmers State Bank was robbed was in the 1970s by a man who had been riding a bicycle.

A robbery that happened Jan. 31, 2020, at The Farmers State Bank, 101 S. Main St. in the village of New Madison, is under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
