2 get 18 years to life in slaying for man’s bike

Two defendants in the May 2011 killing of a 26-year-old man for his bicycle each has been sentenced to 18 years to life in prison for their roles in the slaying.

Raylin Darlene Marzita Holloway, 17, and Carlos McGary, 20, were sentenced Monday in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court.

Holloway in March pleaded guilty to two counts of murder, one count of felonious assault and three counts of aggravated robbery in the May 31, 2011, slaying of Willie B. Totty III.

McGary pleaded guilty in June to two counts of murder and single counts of aggravated robbery, felonious assault and carrying a concealed weapon.

Holloway and McGary were accused of approaching Totty on North Main Street and demanding his possessions that including his bicycle. When he did not comply, McGary allegedly shot Totty.

“These defendants have no respect for the lives or property of others and must be incarcerated for their conduct and to protect our community,” Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr. said in a statement Monday afternoon.

A short time later, in the early morning hours of June 1, Holloway and Darion T. Strickland, 18, allegedly approached two women walking home from a store on Salem Avenue and demanded their money.

When they did not comply, Holloway or Strickland fired a gun at the victims, took their money, and fled.

A motion was filed in Juvenile Court to have Holloway and Strickland transferred to the adult system.

The case against Strickland, charged with aggravated robbery, is pending.
