Urbana mother, Heather Bailey, 33 is facing criminal child endangering charges after her toddler was found wandering alone near a busy street.

An Urbana mom has been charged with misdemeanor child endangering after police say her two-year-old wandered outside near a busy street.

Heather Bailey, 33, was issued a court summons on Friday after police were called to the area of Westview Drive and North Main Street in Urbana, according to a release from Chief Matt Lingrell.

A nearby neighbor notified police because he thought the little girl might try to cross busy North Main Street, the release said.

When police arrived the child appeared to be healthy and appropriately dressed, expect for being barefoot, Lingrell said.

Children’s Services were notified and assisted police at the scene. An officer discovered a partially open door on Westview Drive and made contact with Bailey. The child had apparently wandered away from home while Bailey was doing laundry, the release said.
