Moraine man accused of driving stolen U-Haul in OSP chase faces new charges

A Moraine man hit with a Taser in December following a slow-speed pursuit in a stolen U-Haul was indicted Wednesday on new charges.

James E. Wright Sr., 51, is charged with three counts of receiving stolen property, a felony, for allegedly taking a U-Haul truck Jan. 24 and Feb. 13, according to a Montgomery County Common Pleas Court documents.

He also was indicted March 29 for assault on a police officer stemming from a separate March 5 incident in Dayton, court records show.

He is due in court Tuesday.

He has been held in the Montgomery County Jail since his April 28 arrest, jail records show.

In December 2018, Wright was involved in a pursuit with the Ohio State Highway Patrol that ended in the Lowe’s parking lot in Huber Heights. Troopers said they tried to pull him over in a stolen U-Haul on northbound Interstate 75 near Northwoods Boulevard, but that he did not stop.

He eventually was arrested at the parking lot after troopers hit him with a Taser when they said he tried to run from the truck.
