I-75 north reopened; hit-and-run suspects reportedly screamed they ‘can’t go to jail’

UPDATE @ 3:05 a.m.:

The highway has reopened as police investigate a white GMC Encore that was involved in a hit and run on northbound Interstate 75.

In a 9-1-1 call, a semi driver described the white SUV as bouncing off the side of his trailer before striking the wall. The operator said that other people calling police said there “were multiple people screaming they have to get out of there because they can’t go to jail.”

The incident remains under investigation.

INITIAL REPORT

We are hearing reports that Dayton police have closed I-75 North and are redirecting traffic off at the state Route 48/Main Street exit.

According to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch, this is in connection to a hit-and-run investigation. The driver of a semi truck told police that an SUV side-swiped his trailer then ran into a wall.

He then said that the occupants of the SUV got into another vehicle and fled.
