Monroe police said there’s no ‘distinct evidence’ the city’s latest drive-by shooting involving bullets into a home with no injuries is a hate crime, but police officer Joshua King said the department is continuing to investigate the shooting Monday night.

On Tuesday, the Cincinnati chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations expressed concern about a report of shots fired at a Muslim family’s home in Monroe and urged law enforcement to investigate the possibility of a bias motive for the incident.

Someone fired three shots Monday night into the Muslim family’s home, narrowly missing two members of the family inside, according to a release from the Muslim civil rights group. Family members say they may have been targeted because they displayed lights outside the house marking the month-long fast of Ramadan.

Several family members also wear Islamic head scarves, or hijab.

Shots were reportedly fired about 11 p.m. Monday on Stone Ridge Lane. One round struck a house, according to police. No one was injured.

The department is asking any residents in that area with information to call the Monroe Police Department at 513-539-9234.
