Suspect arrested in trio of robberies at Dayton businesses

UPDATE @ 10 a.m. (May 24):

A suspect in three recent robberies at Dayton businesses has been arrested, according to police.

“The suspect in the three recent robberies of local businesses (UDF, Vapor Haus, Zip Thru) has been located and arrested,” Dayton police posted on Twitter. “Thanks for your help in getting the surveillance video out.”

 

Police did not identify the suspect; however, Blake A. Johnson, 35, was arrested by Dayton police and booked into the Montgomery County Jail on suspicion of two counts of aggravated robbery and one count of robbery.

He is being held on $100,000 bond and will appear in court on Tuesday.

INITIAL REPORT:

Police are asking for the public’s help to identify a robber they said is responsible for three recent robberies in the city.

Zip Thru Beer & Wine drive-through was robbed just after 8:30 p.m. Wednesday after a man armed with a knife wearing a green beanie with eye holes entered the business at 1404 Patterson Road in Dayton.

Surveillance video released by Dayton police on Thursday evening shows the suspect go behind the counter and threaten workers with the knife. He got away with $350.

The same robber, still wielding a steak knife, demands money around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday from Vapor Haus, 617 Watervliet Ave. in Dayton. However, employees said they were able to chase the robber, forcing him to drop stolen money in the store’s parking lot.

Police said the same robber on Saturday held up UDF at 1666 Woodman Drive in Dayton.

The suspect is described as standing 5 feet 10 inches and somewhat heavyset wearing a green beanie over his face. Anyone who recognizes the robber is urged to call 937-333-COPS(2677) or Crime Stoppers at 937-222-STOP(7867).
