More than 30 people from the same neighborhood reported things stolen from them the same night.

It happened June 18 in the community off Spring Valley Pike, on streets including Winterstone Court and Payne Farm Lane, where the culprit entered unlocked vehicles and stole purses, cash and other property from cars.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said it has a suspect, but no arrests have been made.

Winterstone Court resident Mary McGirr said last week she found out some of her neighbors had become victims of an overnight crime. One woman said her car was ransacked and that it smelled like someone smoked a cigarette in her vehicle.

“We just continue doing what we’ve always done and that’s to make sure any car that’s left out is locked and the house is always locked ... I do the checks every night before I go to bed and taking those precautions is what keeps our neighborhood safe,” McGirr said.
