An OVI checkpoint Thanksgiving Eve — one of the year’s biggest bar nights — led to 11 citations, but none for impaired driving.

The citations from the checkpoint from 7 to 11 p.m. Wednesday in the 4600 block of North Main Street in Harrison Twp. included:

5 driving under suspension

1 child restraint citation

1 open container violation

1 no operator’s license

1 expired operator’s license

1 expired registration

Extra patrols in the area resulted in one citation for driving under suspension.

Deputies and police will be out conducting OVI patrols for the remainder of the Thanksgiving holiday, focused on impaired drivers, reckless driving, and seat belt and child seat violations.

The Montgomery County Combined Agency OVI Task Force conducted a sobriety checkpoint on Thanksgiving Eve, one of the year’s biggest bar nights.

The checkpoint was 7 to 11 p.m. Wednesday in the 4600 block of North Main Street in Harrison Twp.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said they don’t want to ruin the Thanksgiving holiday, but they will if they catch people driving drunk or drugged.

According to the Ohio Department of Public Safety, there have been 10,911 alcohol and/or drug impaired traffic crashes that caused 353 deaths and 6,829 injuries in Ohio so far in 2019.

During that same time, there have been 521 alcohol and/or drug impaired crashes that caused 17 deaths and 338 injuries in Montgomery County.

To stay safe, do not drive impaired and plan ahead to have a designated driver or alternate way to get home.
