The fire was reported around midnight Saturday at S and M's Meat Market.
Meat and equipment were destroyed.
Customers stopped by Monday to console the employees. The owners said this was the worst possible time for such a huge loss because they were well on their way to a banner year in business.
Fred Salyer said, "Yes, our books were full and our freezers, and hanging coolers were full. We were shooting for a record year."
Now, the building and all that meat is burned to a crisp and local farms will have to find somewhere else to get their meat processed.
West Liberty fire officials called in state investigators to help.
Fire Chief John Esch said, "We called in the Fire Marshal to find the cause of it."
