Democrats: Butler County Republican Party broke

The Butler County Republican Party has run out of money and can’t afford to pay rent on its office space, according to claims made today by the Butler County Democratic Party.

The Butler County Republican Party had $588 in the bank as of July, according to financial records posted to the Ohio Secretary of State’s website. The records also show the county GOP last made a partial rent payment in January. The party typically pays $2,724.62 for the office space officials rent at Bridgewater Falls Shopping Center in Fairfield Twp., according to past statements. This year, as of July 19, the party had only made a single payment of $1,300 in January.

GOP Executive Committee Chairman Dave Kern denied the claims.

“That’s absolutely not the case that we haven’t paid (rent) since January,” Kern said. He said the party has paid all of its rent in full but is “looking at all of its options” for future office space.

GOP Party Treasurer Nancy Nix replied, “I cannot comment on that” when asked Friday about the party’s rent payments.

“We’re hoping to stay where we are,” Nix said of the office space. “It’s just the times we’re going through, we just have a smaller amount of dollars…”

In a news release Friday, the Butler County Democratic Party said GOP Party was “forced to move out of its office space … this week due to lack of funds.”

Bridgewater Falls management officials could not be reached for comment.
