1 person taken to hospital after fire at Middletown home

UPDATE @ 6:30 p.m.:

One male occupant of the home received first- and second-degree burns, according to Middletown Fire Chief Paul Lolli.

The man is being treated at Atrium Medical Center.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it appears a burning candle caught plastic on the wall on fire.

No other injuries were reported.

Lolli said the home was undergoing renovations.

“Unfortunately this is a case where the residents tried to put out the fire before calling the fire department,” Lolli said.

INITIAL REPORT:

Middletown emergency dispatchers confirmed to this news outlet that EMS crews are on the scene of a fire in the 1700 block of Taylor Avenue.

Reports of injuries and damages were not available dispatch said, and further information was not available as of 5:45 p.m.
