At about 3:15 a neighbor knocked on the door to alert the occupants that there was a lot of smoke coming from the rear of the home. The residents and dogs escaped unharmed.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, said Christiansburg Fire Chief Robert Hoey.
The smoke could be seen for miles.
Firefighters from Christiansburg received mutual aid from neighboring Casstown, Fletcher, St. Paris and Pike Township from Clark County.
Firefighters were on the scene for 5 hours hampered by the fire, smoke and elements..
