Now, a Montgomery County judge wants Florida detectives to present evidence in the case or he will be set free. A hearing is set for Jan. 18.
Florida detectives must prove to a judge through evidence that Wolfe is in fact the person they believe killed David Churchill Jackson in Pembroke Pines, Fla., more than 16 years ago.
Investigators in Florida said since 1988 Wolfe has lived with a dark and dirty secret. Cold case detectives in Pembroke Pines insist Wolfe killed Jackson.
Authorities in Florida said they believe Jackson was killed over child custody issues. However, they did not want to go into great detail.
In an exclusive interview with NewsCenter 7’s Jim Baldridge last November, Wolfe maintained his innocence. Wolfe said he was not in Florida when Jackson was killed.
On Tuesday, a governors warrant from Florida arrived for the extradition of Wolfe, but a Montgomery County judge wants an identification hearing so detectives can present evidence that Wolfe was involved in Jackson’s murder.
Wolfe’s current wife continues to defend her husband in the case.
