Former School Administrator Accused Of Having Child Porn

A former administrator with the Fairborn School District appeared in court Thursday morning on allegations that he had child pornography on a work computer.

Michael Pittman is the former director of curriculum and instruction with the district. News Center 7 learned that Pittman was in trouble with the district even before police said they found inappropriate images of children on his computer.

Pittman pleaded not guilty to a bill of information. The superintendent of Fairborn Schools said there was a big problem with Pittman a month or so before police got involved.

Pittman’s attorney entered his not guilty plea for him. Pittman had worked in the Fairborn Board of Education office for two years.

A statement from the district said that Pittman was placed on leave and banned from school property on July 10, 2009 for not performing his duties and on allegations of misconduct.

News Center 7 learned that the misconduct involved manipulating test scores. Pittman was accused of making the test scores higher.

He resigned on July 31. Police started to investigate Pittman in August after his work laptop was reported stolen.

According to police, the laptop was found at Pittman’s home and they said they found at least a dozen inappropriate images of young children.

Pittman’s attorney said he is asking for intervention or counseling over conviction or jail time, if he is convicted.

Rissie Jenkins, who lives across the street from the Board of Education office, said she believes that Pittman ought to get jail time. “People get by with too much with our children.”

The judge allowed Pittman to leave the courtroom and go home; however, he will return to court on Aug. 26.

Prosecutors said Pittman has been cooperative throughout the investigation.

According to police, none of the images that were found on the computer are believed to be children from the district or the Miami Valley.
