Gas prices in Miami Valley trending down

Gas prices have gone up in the Miami Valley over the last week, but the good news is that they are trending down.

Average retail gas prices in Dayton have risen 7.3 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $1.95 per gallon on Sunday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 391 gas outlets in Dayton.

This compares with the national average that has increased 11.9 cents per gallon in the last week to $1.93 a gallon, according to GasBuddy.com.

According to GasBuddy.com, the average price for a gallon of gas in Dayton is $1.94, but trending down. The cheapest gas, as of this morning, is $1.85 at Big Daddy's in east Dayton.

In Hamilton, the average price for a gallon of gas is $1.86, but trending down. The cheapest gas is $1.69 at Sunoco on Main Street.

In Springfield, the average price for a gallon of gas also is $1.94, but trending down. The cheapest gas is $1.74 at Speedway on Derr Road.

“The cheapest gas prices of the year are now solidly behind us as the national average will soon again hit $2,” Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy, said in a release. “The current upward trend is an unfortunate one that we witness every year, but the sudden jolt this time around has been enhanced by a 45 percent jump in the price of crude oil in the last month. … Motorists still could see the cheapest average summer gasoline prices in over a decade.”
