A Greenville private ambulance company has sent crews to New York City to aid in the response to the coronavirus.

The crews left Thursday as a part of the American Medical Response to New York City.

The four ambulances and crews, part of Spirit Medical Transport LLC, are part of a second major deployment to New York City in the past two weeks. Crews from Liberty, Ind. were also dispatched.

“We are proud we’ve been entrusted to provide care to the world at a moment’s notice during this unprecedented time,” said Brian K. Hathaway, president and CEO of Spirit Medical Transport. “Ohioans and Hoosiers alike are concerned about COVID-19 and want to join in the fight. Our primary focus remains on providing adequate resources at home during this crisis. We have carefully selected the personnel and resources to send and this deployment will in no way impact our ability to meet our community’s own needs.”

Spirit Medical Transport will send a mental wellness leader with the crews to monitor their mental health and provide guidance on site.

Crews will monitor for symptoms and check their temperature every 12 hours, will assess any symptoms with online tools and will have a 24/7 staffed nurse and physician team ready to assess and monitor anyone who has been in contact with COVID-19 positive patients.
