Greenville garage destroyed by fire

A detached garage was destroyed by a a fire early Tuesday morning in Greenville.

Greenville Fire Dept. Assistant Chief/Fire Inspector David McDermitt stopped short in calling the early morning garage fire “suspicious.” The fire was reported around 1:30 a.m. in the rear of the 700 block of CEntral Avenue, about a lock north of Wayne Health Care.

McDermitt said the fire started on the exterior of the detached garage. The was destroyed.

A plastic license plate holder on the rear of a parked car across the alley from the burning structure was melted.

Anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious is asked to contact the Greenville Police Department, McDermitt said. This is at least the fifth or sixth garage fire in the central part of the city this year, he said.

New Madison Fire Department provided mutual aid.
