‘Health care should be a birthright’

First, let’s understand that we Americans already have two tried and true means to provide quality government-sponsored health care. The same basic formats are used in Britain and Germany.

One is the Veterans Administration. The federal government owns the facilities. All employees, including the doctors, are paid by the government. Prescription drug prices are negotiated. Veterans, active or honorably discharged, need only their ID cards to receive care.

While the system is not perfect, when the veterans bring a consistent problem to the attention of the VA, it does get addressed. What if we duplicated this system for all American citizens?

Another tried and true program is Medicare. Granted, it is in financial difficulties due to legislation that is designed to make financing of the Medicare system problematic. Just one example of the destruction of Medicare’s financial base was the passage of legislation that required Medicare to pay full retail for all prescription drugs. When we consider the population that is covered by Medicare, it will not take long for this factor alone to take the system to its financial ruin.

Medicare is a single-payer system, and it works well. ... Medicare is a safety net for the middle class. ...

Unless you have been a small business owner and tried to provide insurance for yourself, and/or your employees, you have no idea how insurance keeps new businesses from occurring or growing in our current society. ...

Health care should be a birthright for every legal American citizen. Privilege? Well, to me, that is getting a driver’s license or meeting a famous person.

Come on, citizens, take back control. We need a middle class to effectively be America. Health care for the privileged and its cost to employers is preventing our middle class from thriving. For-profit medical care and insurance are a root problem. Our form of government is of, by and for we the people. ...
