GM To Eliminate Walgreens As Prescription Provider

General Motors said it is eliminating Walgreens as a prescription-drug provider under its employee health insurance programs. GM health plans cover 1.1 million workers, retirees and dependents.

The automaker said the 4,700 store chain is unreliable and said it's ending ties with Walgreens on March 1.

Walgreen's has objected to drugs-by-mail programs such as that operated by GM and stopped serving Ohio state employees because over its mail-in program.

Last year, GM spent $5.2 billion on health care, including $1.5 billion on prescription drugs.
