Helping through the crisis

Dear readers,

I wanted to let you know about some proactive measures we have taken to make sure our journalists are safe, as well as those who work behind the scenes to print and deliver the news for you.

Especially in times like those we are experiencing together now, we recognize the essential role the Dayton Daily News plays to keep our community informed and safe. We want to assure you that we are taking every precaution to prevent the spread of COVID-19 while we continue to serve you.

• We have a special section in today’s newspaper that provides important resources for you, and we’ve launched a special e-mail dedicated to the day’s developments around the coronavirus.

• Our journalists, along with most of our work force, are working from home or outside the office, to keep everyone healthy so we can continue to work on your behalf. Our journalists, who are also out in public as part of their newsgathering efforts, are taking additional precautions to stay healthy.

• For our newspaper delivery team, whose job requires them to be at our distribution facilities, we have taken several safety measures such as disinfecting equipment and utilizing hand sanitizer to prevent any potential spread of infection.

• We also recognize you may have questions about the safety of mail and packages, and those concerns might apply to print newspapers, as well. According to guidance from Cox Enterprises, our parent company, and information from the World Health Organization (WHO), a highly credible source of factual information, the likelihood of an infected person contaminating commercial goods is low, and the risk of catching the virus that causes COVID-19 from a package that has been moved, traveled and exposed to different conditions and temperature is also low. This would apply to newspapers, as well.

• You may prefer to read your newspaper through our e-edition, which subscribers can access at DaytonDailyNews.com/epaper or through our iPad app. You can also access our complete coverage on DaytonDailyNews.com, which is updated throughout each day.

• For any customer service requests, visit myaccount.daytondailynews.com, email customercare@daytondailynews.com or call our customer care team at 888-397-6397.

We are living in extraordinary times, with our community, state and nation operating at emergency levels. You are forefront in our minds as we navigate these uncharted waters together, and we are committed to our mission to keep you informed with print and digital coverage. Thank you so much for supporting community journalism. I hope you and your family remain safe during this public health crisis.
