Markin is seeking ideas about events that could be held at the fairgrounds that would generate revenue for the Montgomery County Agricultural Society, according to Tawana Jones, the county’s community development coordinator.
The public meeting will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Christina Leiber Center in Golden Gate Park, 545 E. Upper Lewisburg-Salem Road. Light refreshments will be served.
Representatives of KO Architects in Iowa, the architect firm working with Markin, will be at the meeting, according to Jones.
“The county, working with the agricultural society, has contracted with a consultant through a request for proposals process,” Jones said. “These guys really have a niche on fairgrounds and event centers planning. They have a perspective that maybe we as locals do not have.”
Representatives of the Montgomery County Agricultural Society have said that they want to move the fairgrounds closer to its customer base and have new facilities.
The move to the Brookville site will occur when developer Miller Valentine Group is able to secure public and private funding for the estimated $18 million cost to purchase the existing 38-acre fairgrounds site on South Main Street in downtown Dayton and acquire and develop the Brookville site.
“Any Brookville resident interested or concerned about the new fairgrounds, either positively or negatively, should attend the meeting for obvious reasons,” said John Wright, Brookville city manager.
It is unclear if any of the Brookville City Council members will attend because city council has a meeting that same night, starting at 7:30 p.m.
“We feel that it will bring great events, including but certainly not limited to, the Montgomery County Fair, for our residents to enjoy,” Wright said. “In addition, we hope for citizens outside the community to visit, spend money at our businesses and enjoy our great community.”
