LexisNexis taps safety, crash data in latest acquisition

LexisNexis Risk Solutions, part of RELX Group, said it has acquired the “Crash and Project” business group of Appriss, a Louisville, Ky.-based data analytics company that collects public safety and crash reports.

LexisNexis will use the acquired technology to serve the law enforcement community, the company said Tuesday.

“With the acquisition of the Crash and Project business group, Coplogic Solutions will improve its ability to address the growing need for the efficient collection of crash and citation information,” Roy Marler, vice president and general manager, Coplogic Solutions, LexisNexis Risk Solutions, said in the company’s release. “By better utilizing time and resources, law enforcement agencies can pursue other, high priority public safety activities that meet the needs of our communities.”

With the acquisition, LexisNexis said it can now provide real-time access to crash reports from more than 3,500 law enforcement agencies across 38 states, for citizens, insurance companies and others. Law enforcement agencies will be able to use analytics, mapping, data visualization and a state-wide crash reporting information.

The Crash and Project business group has offices in Martinsville, Ind. and Louisville and its 66 employees will join LexisNexis through the acquisition, LexisNexis said.

LexisNexis has administrative and other functions on a campus in Miami Twp., with about 3,000 employees.
