Life In Prison For Double Murderer

A man convicted of killing two people is headed to prison after a jury recommended no death penalty.

Jurors made the decision late Monday night and recommended that Juan Rios spend two life sentences plus 26 years behind bars.

He faced the death penalty, but the 27-year-old man is now headed to prison for the rest of his life.

The shooting happened at the State Theater in Springfield in June 2008. Police said Rios opened fire in the lobby just as a Latin dance party was ending.

Witness said he shot the first man, went through his pockets, robbed him and then shot him again. They said Rios then went to the bathroom where he shot another man multiple times.

Rios was already in jail on another charged before Monday night’s decision. He was immediately taken into custody and will be transported to prison early Wednesday morning.
