For the first time since Monroe became a school district in 2000, both the girls and boys soccer squads are simultaneously playing in the Division II regional semifinals on Tuesday and Wednesday. The regional semifinal level is the same as the Round of 16, four wins from a state championship.
The girls team will take on Tippecanoe High School at 7 p.m. today at Lebanon High School.
The boys squad will play Wyoming at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Lakota East High School.
Eric Silverman, athletic director for Monroe, said that “the success of both of our boys and girls soccer teams this season has really been amazing not only on the field, but for our school and community. The atmosphere in our school right now is fantastic with all of the excitement surrounding both of our programs.”
Silverman said that “one of the incredible things about Monroe is how our school and community really gets behind all of our athletic teams and show such incredible support, this run through the tournament for boys and girls soccer teams is no exception. Our crowds at their games have been fantastic.”
Also still vying for state soccer title is the boys squad from Lakota East, which will play Elder High School in the Division I regional semifinal match at Monroe at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Lakota West’s girls soccer team will play Seton High School at 7 p.m. today in the Division I regional semifinal match at Mason.
In volleyball, Fenwick will play Wyoming at 6 p.m. Thursday at Butler High School north of Dayton.
