When the alarm sounded shortly before 2 p.m. today, fire crews from the city arrived and determined the cause of the activation but have since been unable to turn off the alarms ringing throughout the high school.
School officials then decided to dismiss school at 2:08 p.m. rather than the usual 2:15 p.m. and allowed students to go to their lockers and depart the building or wait for their school buses.
The adjacent Middletown Middle School on the same campus was not affected.
