DAYTON — The Montgomery County Animal Shelter is overflowing with cats and dogs ready for adoption, including some taken from a Huber Heights rescue shelter.
Of the 85 cats and 45 dogs removed from the Circle of Love, 6721 Spokane Drive, on Aug. 10, 15 have been cleared for adoption and homes have been found for four, Mark Kumpf, Montgomery County Animal Resource Center director, told the County Commission on Tuesday.
“Don’t call if you want to adopt. Just show up,” he said.
The animals were found at the rescue shelter after neighbors tipped off officials about smells and noise coming from the address. Some were suffering from upper respiratory infections; ring worm, feline herpes virus, fleas and rashes, he said
Seven dogs and 10 cats from the Circle of Love case have been euthanized on veterinary recommendation because of medical conditions and suffering.
Shelter owner Mark Madsen has denied that the animals were neglected. He said he and his wife try to give the animals homes.
Kumpf said the ARC is in need of supplies that include distilled water, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, hot dogs (used to dispense medicine), exam gloves, dog and cat toys, cat litter and trays, cat and dog food, shampoo and dish soap.
Cash donations may be dropped off or mailed to: ARC, 6790 Webster St., Dayton OH 45414.
A bake sale to raise money for the shelter will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at The Bark Park behind the ARC.
