Fairmont grad accepted in teacher program

KETTERING — Kathryn Moore, daughter of Charles Moore and Patricia Young of Kettering, has been accepted into the Benedum Collaborative Five-Year Teacher Education Program; PreK-K at West Virginia University in Morgantown, W. Va.

Moore is a 2007 Fairmont High School graduate.

Oakwood resident graduates from leader training

OAKWOOD — Alec M. Livada, son of son of Alan N. Livada and Christina D. Higgins, both of Oakwood, has graduated from the Army ROTC Leader’s Training Course at Fort Knox, Ky.

The four-week course is a leadership internship for cadets that can lead to the ultimate goal of becoming an Army officer.

Livada is a student at Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff, Ariz. He is a 2007 Oakwood High School graduate.

Kroger receives scholarship to Kentucky

KETTERING — Kathleen L. Kroger, an Archbishop Alter High School graduate, is the recipient of a National Excellence Partial Scholarship to attend the University of Kentucky this fall.

The National Excellence Partial Scholarship is awarded to out-of-state students and has a total value of $18,000. The scholarship is awarded in $4,500 increments for four years at UK.

Kroger is the daughter of Jim and Debbie Kroger. The university is located in Lexington.

Band boosters seeking support on Aug. 22

KETTERING — Kettering Fairmont Band Boosters will send chaperoned groups of marching band and guard members door-to-door throughout the Kettering community on Aug. 22 to ask for monetary donations to support the bands at the high school and two middle schools.

Students will be wearing their 2009 show shirts and khaki shorts. To mail a tax deductible donation, send it to Kettering Fairmont Band Boosters, 3301 Shroyer Road, Kettering, OH 45429.

DePaul announces area students on spring dean’s list

Calvin G. Williamson of the Oakwood area, Kristen L. Fornes of the Kettering area and Jacquelyn M. Bobo of Kettering, are on the spring quarter dean’s list of DePaul University in Chicago, Ill. Bobo graduated cum laude in June with a bachelor of arts from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Keller graduates from Kaplan in criminal justice

KETTERING — Richard Keller of Kettering graduated July 25 with a bachelor of science in criminal justice from Kaplan University in Chicago.
