The Air Force Band of Flight’s Spirit of Freedom will perform Aug. 23 at the Levitt in downtown Dayton.

Spirit of Freedom is a versatile brass band, and its members are active-duty musicians in the U.S. Air Force, stationed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. In addition to performing military ceremonies on and off base, the ensemble performs for local communities to connect the public with service members in uniform.

“We’re excited to share the Air Force story with our community through America’s greatest cultural medium: music,” said Senior Airman Robert Hanson, percussionist with the Spirit of Freedom.

This show has something for everyone, ranging from the classics to jazz and pop. Spirit of Freedom will feature works by the great Louis Armstrong, Jon Williams, Chicago and more. With members coming from all corners of the United States, the ensemble will showcase a variety of individual and collective talents.

Songs the group will perform include “Free” by Chicago, “Amazing Grace,” Joyce’s “71st Regimental March” and music selections from “West Side Story.”

“As members of Spirit of Freedom, we always enjoy performing entertaining shows and playing music that everyone can connect with,” said Senior Airman Bryan Gannon, trombone player.

The concert is a free event, open to the public. For information on attending events at the Levitt Pavilion, visit https://levittdayton.org/. For more information on the USAF Band of Flight, visit https://www.music.af.mil/Bands/US-Air-Force-Band-of-Flight/.
