Halloween festival Oct. 21-22

On Oct. 21-22 the City of Fairborn will hold its 5th Annual Halloween Festival downtown on Main Street. There will be rides, entertainment, vendors, parades and more. On Friday night the Annual Spooktacular Parade will take place. Costume judging for Spooktacular begins at 6 p.m. at the YMCA, 300 S. Central Ave. At 7:30 p.m. the parade will travel down Central to Main Street where the costume winners will be announced.

On Saturday there will be entertainment throughout the day and contests and at 8:30 p.m. there will be the Annual Zombie Walk.

City up for ‘Tank of the Year’

Fairborn is up once again for Tank of the Year. In 2015 they were featured in the month of May as being one of the 12 finalists in the Tnemac calendar. One vote per person is permitted. Tanks are listed alphabetically at www.tnemec.com/tankoftheyear.

BEAVERCREEK

Book drive through Nov. 4

Beavercreek City Schools is coordinating a book drive on behalf of schools within the Livingston Parish Public School System, outside of Baton Rouge, who lost their libraries in the recent floods. They will be collecting new and gently used books appropriate for grades K-12 through Nov. 4. You can also go to www.yougivegoods.com/lpstrong to purchase books to be delivered to Livingston Parish.

Road closure Oct. 22

Starting Oct. 22 weather permitting, Kemp Road will be closed to the east of Grange Hall Road for sanitary sewer repair work.

The closure is expected to last 2 days and a detour will be posted while the closure is in progress.

Emergency access will not be possible while this work is in progress.

Volunteer training and tour Oct. 31

On Oct. 31 Greene County Parks and Trails will be conducting a tour and volunteer training at Indian Mound Reserve, 2750 US Rt. 42 E., Cedarville from 9 a.m.-noon

The tour will include the new log cabin, a hike to the Hopewell Enclosure, and if time allows a hike to the Adena Mound. For more information, call 937-562-6440.
