The Air Force Security Assistance and Cooperation Directorate has a new director. Brig. Gen. Brian Bruckbauer assumed leadership of the organization in a change of leadership ceremony held at the Wright-Patterson Club June 18.

“This is a dream job, and Stacye and I are very excited to be here,” said Bruckbauer. “To the AFSAC team, including the foreign liaison officers, thank you for your work; it is recognized and respected. The contributions that AFSAC makes are not only important to the national defense strategy but also the national defense of 113 partnership nations, which is no small feat.”

Bruckbauer replaces Brig. Gen. Sean Farrell, who was nominated for promotion to major general and departed for his new assignment as the U.S. Special Operations Command J8 or Director of Force Structure, Requirements, Resources, and Strategic Assessments at MacDill AFB, Florida.

Prior to his current assignment Bruckbauer served as the director of Expeditionary Support and Innovation at the Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center at Joint Base San Antonio, Texas. A career air traffic control and airfield operations officer, he has served in a variety of joint and air staff positions as well as commanded an air base wing, expeditionary mission support group and operations support squadron.

As AFSAC director, he leads a directorate charged with providing security assistance and cooperation to international partners and administering the Air Force’s more than $196 billion security assistance portfolio supporting foreign military sales, operating more than 6,700 aircraft and other weapon systems, equipment, supply and construction needed to deliver and support airpower capabilities world-wide.

“AFSAC is very much a part of making sure that the United States has strong coalitions and that we are maintaining those coalitions and those partners with the very best most precise, most effective and most lethal Air Force weapons systems,” he said. “It’s an honor to be part of an organization that has such a positive impact on the security of our nation and allies.”
