Butler High mourns loss of teen killed in Ohio 4 crash

Members of the Vandalia-Butler City Schools crisis team met this morning to develop a plan to help students cope with the death of senior Alexandria Fowler, 17.

Fowler was killed in a single-vehicle accident Monday afternoon on Ohio 4 near Stanley Avenue in Dayton.

Administrators met with staff prior to the start of the school day, the district said in a release.

Class meetings are being held in the Butler High School Performing Arts Theater with each class at the start of the day. Crisis counselors and area clergy members will be at the school, available to students and to staff.

“The Vandalia-Butler community will be impacted greatly by this loss. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Allie’s family and friends at this very difficult time,” Superintendent Brad Neavin said in a statement. “Our school community is a tight-knit one and will experience this loss as any family would. We will be providing support to our staff and to our students as they deal with this loss.”

At this point, all school scheduled events will continue as planned for the week. No memorial arrangements have been announced, the district said.

Counselors and community religious leaders are expected at Butler High School on Tuesday morning in the aftermath of the death of 17-year-old Alexandria Fowler, who was killed in a single-vehicle accident Monday afternoon on Ohio 4 near Stanley Avenue in Dayton.

Fowler attended Butler High School and was enrolled in classes at Wright State University, said Traci Hale Brown, public information officer for Vandalia Butler Schools.

Dayton police are continuing their investigation into what caused the accident on state Route 4 that claimed the life of 17-year-old Alexandria Fowler of Vandalia.

She was pronounced dead at Miami Valley Hospital at 3:43 p.m., less than 45 minutes after the the car she was driving, believed to be a Chrysler Sebring convertible hit a section of guardrail on the right side of the road, Sgt. Jeffery Spires said.

According to the preliminary investigation, Fowler apparently lost control of the car, he said.

FIRST REPORT

A 17-year-old girl was killed Monday afternoon in a single-vehicle accident on state Route 4, in the area of Stanley Avenue, the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office confirms.

Alexandria Fowler was the driver, according to a coroner’s investigator, and an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

The Vandalia Drummer is reporting that Fowler was a student at Butler High School.

The accident was reported at 3:01 p.m. Northbound state Route 4 at Stanley Avenue was shut down because of the accident. The car hit a guardrail, pinning her in the wreckage. She was pronounced dead at Miami Valley Hospital, according to the investigator.
