Child run over by golf cart in Darke County, flown to hospital

A 4-year-old boy was flown to the hospital after being run over by a golf cart Thursday evening.

The child was injured shortly after 7 p.m. on private property in the 4100 block of Children’s Home Bradford Road in Greenville Twp., according to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.

In a release, the sheriff’s office said that the child had non-life-threatening injuries, and was taken by a CareFlight medical helicopter to Dayton Children’s Medical Center as a precaution.

An initial investigation found that Marybeth Erisman, 56, of Greenville, was trying to back up a blue and black Ez-Go golf cart when the child tried to get onto the rear of the cart and was backed over.

Greenville Township Fire and Rescue also responded to the scene with Darke County deputies and CareFlight.

The accident was the second in the region on Thursday involving a child and a golf cart.

A 2-year-old boy was thrown from a golf cart and killed around 11:50 a.m. in the 1700 block of Stitcher Road in Pleasant Hill in Miami County. The child fell and struck his head on the driveway after a family dog ran into  the path of the golf cart, causing the child’s grandfather to swerve to avoid hitting it, according to the Miami County Sheriff’s Office.
