Lane was a junior at Colerain High School, and Jessen was a foreign exchange student from Denmark who took both junior and senior classes, said Pauletta Crowley, spokeswoman for the Northwest Local School District in Hamilton County.
Jessen’s family has been notified and is traveling to the U.S., Crowley said.
“We called all the juniors in (Friday) morning and gave love and support needed by counselors; it was done with great compassion and heavy hearts,” Crowley said.
Preliminary investigations from the Butler County Sheriff’s Office indicate the Honda Civic driven by Lane failed to yield to the oncoming semi, a JTM Food Group truck driven by Steve Fish of West Harrison, Ind., who was not injured. Both girls were buckled in their seats, said Sgt. Monte Mayer. They were pronounced dead at the scene by the Butler County Coroner’s Office.
