WEST CHESTER TWP. — The saying “If you build it, they will come” doesn’t apply just to a mystical baseball field. It could also apply to EnterTRAINment Junction this weekend.
The train display attractions hosts the 2011 Model Engineering Show from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.
“This fills up the big expo center and spills over,” said Bill Mefford, the publicist for EnterTRAINment Junction. “These are, in my opinion, artisans. Rather than just being small replicas, or what have you, this has moving parts.”
The show will bring in about 30 or 40 collectors, including Peter Villarreal, a volunteer at EnterTRAINment Junction who builds some of the bridges and other structures in the display.
He said the show will feature models such as a quarter-inch replica of the 611 Norfolk & Western Railway engine, which pulled passenger trains. The replica has a working diesel engine with brakes, a sound system, and even a railhead forward camera. It was built by Don Guill of Diamond Car Works in Shandon.
Also in the show are the one-fifth scale radial aircraft engines and a Mississippi river steamboat engine hand-built by Lee Hodgson of Ageless Engines in Cincinnati.
Villarreal said that visitors to the show are “curious about the people who design and build these models themselves on a smaller scale.”
Admission to the show is free.
