Coronavirus: Greene County dog grooming business to reopen Saturday

A Greene County dog grooming business has been given the go-ahead to reopen Saturday after the Ohio Health Department issued a new order this week.

GroomingDales Pet Salon and Day Spa in Beavercreek was shut down by Greene County Public Health and a state commission had ruled that dog groomers are not essential businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic. But a new order issued by the Ohio Health Department this week extending the Stay Safe Ohio order throughout most of May also allows businesses that can conduct its work through curbside appointments to reopen starting Saturday.

Coronavirus: Greene County dog grooming business sues Public Health

Greene County Assistant Prosecutor Anu Sharma said the office was waiting for the new order and will not stop GroomingDales from reopening.

Previously, Amy Howard, owner of GroomingDales, filed the suit against Greene County Public Health, saying that her establishment and the services it provides fell under the exemption allowing for businesses that provide pet healthcare, food, shelter and kennels to remain open.

The lawsuit says the Greene County business provides numerous services to keep pets healthy including coat examination, bathing, hair clipping, ear cleaning to prevent infections and discomfort, identification and treatment of fleas, ticks and ear mites, nail clipping to avoid splayed feet and injured tendons, oral examinations and teeth brushing.

The new Stay at Home order does require businesses to follow proper social distancing and take precautions to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

An attorney for Howard said the dog groomers had taken precautions before the shutdown and would continue to do so.
