Heavy smoke pours from vacant duplex in Springfield

Heavy smoke and flames were coming from a duplex Thursday evening on Clay Street in Springfield.

Crews were called shortly before 5:30 p.m. to the 1700 block of Clay Street, where a two-story residence was on fire.

The duplex was vacant, and when firefighters arrived, smoke was pouring out all the windows, Battalion Chief Capt. Matt Davis of the Springfield Division of Fire said.

Clay Street was blocked while crews battle the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and no injuries were reported.
