Emergency crews responded to the one and a half story house showing heavy flames in the 100 block of Grove Avenue around 1:20 a.m.
The three occupants in the house were able to get out uninjured, but one of the seven dogs were unaccounted for, said Dayton Fire Department District Chief Matt McClain.
Firefighters were able to get the fire under control quickly, but there was damage to the kitchen and second floor, McClain said.
Half of the house was damaged but is not considered a total loss, McClain said.
Damage estimates were not available.
No firefighters were injured.
