In a recent survey of millennials, 83 percent believe it is “important, very important or extremely important” to increase cybersecurity awareness programs in formal education and workplace environments. The younger generation has grown up in the cyber technology age and knows the value of “Protecting Your Home Network,” “Social Media Security” and “e-Commerce,” which are some of the classes being offered next month during NCSAM.

Cybersecurity should be “extremely important” to all of us no matter the age.

This October, National Cybersecurity Awareness Month is commemorating its 16th year as an annual initiative to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity. NCSAM 2019 is a collaborative effort between government and industry to ensure all Americans have the resources they need to stay safer and more secure online, while increasing the resiliency of the nation during cyber-threats.

The Department of Homeland Security is the national lead for NCSAM in cooperation with the National Cyber Security Alliance. The overarching theme for 2019 is “Own IT. Secure IT. Protect IT.”

Annually, the 88th Air Base Wing Cybersecurity Office partners with the Air Force Institute of Technology, the National Air and Space Intelligence Center and others to host NCSAM events for Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. If you are interested in a wide array of cybersecurity topics, sign up for one of the many classes offered during October at the NCSAM class registration site at https://cs2.eis.af.mil/sites/er/0204/SitePages/Home.aspx.

If you have questions, contact the 88 ABW Cybersecurity Office at 88ABW.cybersecurity@us.af.mil or visit the WCO site, https://cs2.eis.af.mil/sites/22629/default.aspx.
