Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley delivers State of the City

During the state of the city address this morning, Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley talked about some positive trends taking place in the city.

She said the police department reported a 3 percent decrease in crime in 2014. She also said 39 businesses opened, expanded or relocated downtown, and she said the unemployment rate is at a 25-year low.

Whaley also outlined efforts to improve educational attainment in the community and the quality and accessibility of services.

She rolled out a new service called “Dayton at your service,” which is a plan to improve customer relations with every city department, increase responsiveness to city residents and customers.

“It’s about rebuilding Dayton neighborhoods, it’s about meeting the needs of our citizens, it’s about supporting local businesses and it’s about expanding our economic base,” she said
