The Dayton music community was shocked and deeply saddened this past Saturday, January 9, 2016 when beloved keyboardist Norman Paraskevas Dimitrouleas, age 33, passed away peacefully in his sleep.

Norman was best known for being the longtime keyboardist for the local band The Maji, and later the internationally renowned band The Werks. His passion for music, for the fans, and the energy exchange between the two was contagious. His untimely death has sparked an outpouring of memories from musicians and fans alike.

Several national music blogs have covered his passing, including Live for Live Music, Appalachian Jamwich, and NYS Music.

The community is not only mourning a devastating musical loss, but a personal one as well. Dino Dimitrouleas, Norman’s brother and fellow member of The Werks, describes this loss:

“They say that the brightest lights always burn out the fastest and there was no brighter light than my brother. Norman didn’t have the word ‘stranger’ in his vocabulary and every person he ever met quickly became his best friend. He was the guy everyone always wanted to be around because of the joy he brought into everyone’s lives just by being next to him.”

For those who would like to pay their respects, a visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13 at Routsong Funeral Home, located at 2100 E. Stroop Road in Kettering. The funeral service will start directly after at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to T.J.'s Place of Hope of Dayton or Little Kids Rock.

Following the funeral service, a musical celebration has been coordinated with Canal Public House. Musicians and fans plan to come together to celebrate his legacy through what he loved most, sharing music with his friends. Doors will open at 8 p.m. and music will begin at approximately 9:30 p.m. following the funeral service.
