A Franklin police officer remains off work after being attacked by a dog she later shot this weekend, and the dog has been euthanized, according to Franklin police.

Officers were called about 5:45 p.m. Saturday to the rear of the Waffle House at 6830 N. Ohio 123 to check the welfare of a dog in a vehicle. Officer Tiffany Wright saw that there were blankets covering the windows.

Wright knocked on the vehicle window. A female opened the door, and the dog, a German shepherd mix, jumped over her and attacked Wright, according to police.

Wright was unable to shoot the dog because of the woman, who was attempting to help Wright. Once she got out of the way, Wright shot the dog.

Wright suffered bite injuries on both her forearms, her left thigh and left calf. She was taken to Atrium Medical Center in Middletown for treatment and was released later that evening.Police don’t believe the woman in the car meant for anyone to be harmed, Whitman said.

The Warren County Dog Warden took the dog to MedVet of Dayton. It was later euthanized with the permission of family members, police said.
