Ross Twp. Fire Chief Steve Miller said firefighters’ main concern was preserving the structure.
Miller said he is pleased that firefighters were able to save it.
“It’s reassuring to our guys,’’ he said. “There’s a lot of history in this place. And if it means a lot to the homeowners, it means a lot to us.”
The home is owned by Timothy and Jennifer Harrison at 3248 Morgan-Ross Road, according to the Butler County auditor’s web site.
The blaze, which started while a woman and her son were in the home, took about 40 minutes to contain, officials said.
A propane tank near the barn made fighting the blaze difficult because it is leaking and shooting flames into the air, according to those at the scene.
The age of the home and the many additions it has had over the years made battling the blaze tough, too, offiicials said.
Firefighters shot water and foam from a distance to get propane tank fire under control, according to those on the scene.
